The Level 1 Sports Trainer accreditation (also known as a Blue Shirt Trainer) is the NRL’s minimum requirement for working with players 16 years and older. For players under 16 years of age, the minimum requirement is League First Aid.
All Level 1 Sports Trainer must be at least 18 years of age.
Courses
The Level 1 Sports Trainer course covers how to manage emergency situations and apply first aid in a Rugby League environment as well as injury management, crisis management, concussion management, sports taping and transporting an injured athlete.
The course builds upon the role of first aid and emergency responders, introducing participants to the basic principles of sports medicine with a distinct emphasis on practical knowledge and skills required by a Sports Trainer including injury management, crisis management, sports taping and transporting an injured athlete.
This course educates prospective Sports Trainers, teachers, coaches, administrators and parents on the basic principles of sports medicine using simulated real-life scenarios which could appear in the community, sporting and/or workplace settings.

Reaccreditation
The NRL Re-Accreditation for Level 1 Sports Trainers requires that sports trainers participate in an update of their Provide First Aid certification providing 3 years of currency.
All candidates must hold a current NRL Level 1 Sports Trainer Qualification that has been expired for no longer than 12 months.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Candidates who already hold a current first and CPR certification can apply for recognition of prior learning. Applicants will need to provide evidence of existing current qualifications that can be used to substitute some course modules.

All Level 1 Sports Trainers must also complete their registration with their nominated club under the Trainer Member Type.
